H.C. Kazanas is professor emeritus of education at the College of Education at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He received his B.Sc. And M.Ed. d

egrees from Wayne State University in industrial education and his Ph.D. Degree in education from the University of Michigan.

Kazama’s present professional interests as a consultant are in the areas of management development,training,on the job employee and the effects of work values on productivity.

He has been an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) and the International Society for Performance Improvement.

He has served and held leadership positions on numerous committees, including the National Association of Industrial and Technical Teacher Educators, of which he was president.

He received several awards for outstanding service, and has published 80 articles in 20 different journals on education and human resource development.

Kazanas has been the author of several book chapters and monographs, and has either authored or co-authored 11 books relating to technical training in manufacturing and human resource development.

One of his technical books has been translated into both Spanish and Arabic. With William J.Rothwell,he co-authored Human Resource Development:

A Strategic Approach(1994); Improving On-The-Job Training(1994); and Planning and Managing Human Resources: Strategic Planning for Human Resource Management(2nd ed.,2002).

Kabanas worked for 10 years in the manufacturing industry as a machinist and production supervisor, and was for 30 years an educator in human resource development.

He has done human resource development consulting for such national and international organizations and agencies as the U.S.Department of Labor, the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S.

Agency for International Development, Motorola, Westinghouse, the World Bank, the United Nations Development Program, the International Labor Office, and UNESCO.

He has worked in Asia, Africa, Europe, and South America, and taught at Eastern Michigan University, the University of Missouri-Columbia, and the University of Illinois.

He was graduate program coordinator at the University of Missouri Columbia and department chair at the University of Illinois.

During his academic career, he coordinated and directed research studies in such areas as work values, attitudes and productivity; strategic human resource planning on-the-job training; management job rotation programs; and individualizing instruction.
