Born on April 23, 1953, Gautam Gan grew up in a joint family, surrounded by grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins, in a household that gave importance to culture and literature.

After graduating from St Paul’s College with honors in English Literature, Gautam started his career in 1974 at Grindlays Bank, even as he pursued an MA from Jadavpur University.

Gautam spent thirty-five years in the banking sector across ten major banks in the private sector (both Indian and foreign banks). But he continued to keep in touch with the world of literature, reading and writing poems.

Simultaneously, his interest in the Vedas, Puranas, Upanishads and extra-terrestrial existence grew. He currently spends his retirement days studying these subjects with great passion. He is also interested in religion, ethics and human values.

His book Ratable, a collection of poems, is expected to be published soon. In this book, Gautam has explored the concepts of God, love and society. This book is expected to introduce the readers of Confessions of an Ex-Banker more intimately with the author.
