An Interview with Bestselling Author, Sudeep Nagarkar

January 9, 2017

Bhubaneswar: The city became the gracious host for the book launch event of All Rights Reserved for You, which is the eighth book for the author, Sudeep Nagarkar. The event was a success with more than a hundred people attending the event. All the previous novels of Sudeep have been constant winners by being in the list of bestsellers in India. However his new book, “All Rights Reserved for You” will remain special for him because this book is based on his real life love story with his wife Jasmine Sethi.

The book explores the tale of long distance relationship and the problems faced by people during it. The author stated that the book is very special for him as it is a marriage gift for his better half. He explained how writing a story about yourself could be more difficult as you have to be more cautious and convey the message properly about what you are trying to say.

He surely inspired a lot of youngsters to take on writing as a career option; and his humble nature could be both seen in his novel and himself. Sudeep also writes for Marathi TV Shows. He left a lucrative job of a software engineer to follow his passion to become a writer. Sandeep Hati from Odisha360.com has spoken to the author during the book launch event in the city:

Question: What do you feel the main difference between a native English speaking writer and an Indian author?

Sudeep Nagarkar: The more important thing is to convey what you want to say with your story. If you are satisfied with the content, there is no difference then. I was sure my previous book “she swiped right into my heart” is not going to work in India because it is around the issues of LGBT community. Still, the book went on to become a bestseller for 20 to 25 weeks. In India, even now, we are facing all these issues; and to come out and speak about the Lesbian and Gay situations is something that was challenging for me.

Question: What is your advice to a first-time writer?

Sudeep Nagarkar: It is very hard for a first timer to publish in India. If you have a story, do not give it to a publisher who considers you as a liability instead of an asset. Your story is something you have worked on very hard. It is quite special for you, but then for a publisher its just a book. You have to be patient enough to wait for a publisher who will do justice to your story.

Q: What is your favourite book?

Sudeep Nagarkar: My all-time favourite book is Not Without My Daughter. It’s the book that has motivated me a lot. Currently I am very fond of Jhumpa Lahiri.

Question: How’s your experience here in Bhubaneswar?

Sudeep Nagarkar: Bhubaneswar is a city that I really, really love. Last time I couldn’t come here on my book launch, which is why I made sure that this time I would definitely visit Odisha. I came here yesterday; and we visited the Jagannath Temple in Puri. It was such a holy experience, it was really nice. I was not aware of many beautiful facts about the temple; and yesterday, I was really fascinated with everything and that is something I will take along with me. Bhubaneswar readers have been special to me, and they have always loved me. So they will always have a special place in my heart.
