The new comic, simply called "Venom," was released digitally on Friday at 11 a.m. ET/8 a.m. PT on Marvel.com. Fans looking for a physical copy will be able to acquire one of these limited edition comics if they purchase their tickets at AMC Theaters for opening weekend.

Written by Sean Ryan and coming from artist Szymon Kudranski, colorist Ian Herring, letterer Joe Sabino, this new Venom comic serves as an official prequel teaser to the movie that sets up what's to come in the feature film. The cover art, above, was done by SKAN.

Marvel has a habit of pulling things full circle with their movie-inspired comics tying back into their comic book films. It's launched a number of limited series or one-shots that tie into its various feature films, including multiple prelude comics and new story arcs.

As for the upcoming Venom movie, it is inspired by two famous comics storylines: Lethal Protector and Planet of the Symbiotes. Director Ruben Fleischer has explained how these two comics were the launching off point for this new take on the classic Marvel character.

Though Venom's release might still be weeks away, IGN has some more exciting exclusives up its sleeves. Next week, we'll be launching a full week of exclusive reveals and first looks as part of our IGN Premiere initiative.
