Mr Fox is a wily fox who lives with his wife and four children, in a hole beside a tree. He makes nightly visits to the farms of Boggis, Bunce, and Bean, three dimwitted and cruel farmers, in order to obtain food and feed his family.

Tired of being outsmarted by Mr Fox, the three come up with a plan to ambush him, but only end up shooting his tail. The evil farmers then decide to dig up the burrow but, Mr Fox and his family burrow deeper and save themselves. The three then decide to wait around the hole until hunger forces Mr Fox to come out. Cornered, Mr. Fox, his family, and the other underground creatures begin to starve.

In a trice, Mr Fox comes up with yet another plan, one that will outsmart the three farmers and feed all the underground creatures too. The re-issue edition of Fantastic Mr. Fox was published by Penguin UK in 2013, and is available in paperback.
