The Redbreast: A Harry Hole thriller (Oslo Sequence 1) is the third in the Harry Hole series but was the first to be translated to English. Written by Jo Nebo, one of Europe's best crime writers, this book takes you on a journey across eras.

The book goes back in time to the second world war period and takes a look at the Nazi occupation of Norway in order to solve a murder mystery. This murder mystery takes Harry across Europe, South Africa and Vienna.

The book begins with President Clinton's visit to Norway for a Middle Eastern Peace Conference. His valor and bravery while foiling an assassination attempt lead him to be promoted to the rank of an inspector.

The main story begins with the discovery of a body with the throat slit with almost surgical precision. Harry Hole also finds himself investigating the works of a possible neo-Nazi outfit. The trial though fails due to legal technicalities. The story then goes back to the second World War to cover the events during the Nazi occupation of Norway.

After a string of murders, Harry finds himself completely at a loss and always a step behind the murderer. Meanwhile, he falls in love with his colleague Rake. to his utter shock, he then finds his former partner Ellen murdered with a baseball bat. The murders lead Harry to think that a schizophrenic personality is at work. He is true to a large extent but the murderer still evades him.
