Nutrition and reproduction are instinctive to human beings as both have a pleasure aspect to meet the physiological need, says Vithal Prabhu, chairman of the Council of Sex Education and Parenthood (International).

While men dominate in enjoying the pleasure aspect, women in general – socially and culturally restricted – take up the risks and social responsibilities, said Dr. Prabhu in an interview with The Hindu .

Acknowledging that there has been a shift in perception over the last 25 years, he said the socio-cultural aspects of sex education are still to be understood properly. The very mention of sex education gets many agitated, mainly because people fear that it might lead children astray.
