Archana Painuly is originally from Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, a North Indian state in India, where she studied to be a teacher. In 1988 she moved to Mumbai and then, in 1997, she moved to Denmark, where she lives now and teaches at NIS International School. She has been writing short stories, articles, and novels that reflect on current ethnic and migratory issues, expatriation, and Indian diasporic experiences. Many University students are doing research on her books, including students from Latvia and Sweden. So far she has published four novels, three short story collections, and one Danish-Hindi translation by premier Hindi and English publishers—Rupa Publication, Bhartiya Gyanpith, Rajpal and Sons, Prabhat Prakashan, etc. Her second book, Where Do I Belong, has been published in English by Rupa Publications.
