ARKA CHAKRABARTI | Author Interview

June 22, 2013

Arka Chakrabarti is the new talk of the town. His action-fantasy book, The Secrets of the Dark: Part-1 of the Saga of Agni is just short of becoming a cult. So what does it take for a 25 year old to shun all the immaturities of his age and pen such a nerve gripping and intriguing novel. Read the interview to know about this young and talented author.

BookGeeks: Tell us something about the Arka we don’t know?

Arka: Well for starters the world of Gaya was something I always wanted to create but couldn’t chalk it out properly. After being a father the actual concept of parenthood, its challenges and joy drove me to pen down my little tale. That is the Secret of ‘Arka the author’.

BookGeeks: What inspired you to write ‘The Secrets of the Dark’ – Book 1 of ‘The Saga of Agni’?

Arka: When I was a kid others used to draw rivers, mountains and the Sun. I used to draw other things which can certainly be quoted as ‘one notch above different’. The obvious question that I used to face was ‘Kon jogote thako?’ (In which world do you live?). Well this is just but a humble reply. :)

BookGeeks: When can we expect the sequel to the book?

Arka: I am already working on it. Hope that the second part will be out by the end of this year.

BookGeeks: How important was the support of family and friends while writing the book?

Arka: The members of my family and my friends have been the torch bearers in this little quest of mine. But the most ardent listener I ever had is my mother. She was the one who suggested that I get it published and after that there was no looking back. :)

BookGeeks: Do you aspire to become a full time author or continue it as a hobby?

Arka: Writing has given me such sheer pleasure that frankly I am left without a choice.

BookGeeks: Who is your favorite author and why?

Arka: That will certainly be JRR Tolkien. Just turning the pages is like treading a dreamland with larger than life characters justifying the most basic principle of humanity.

BookGeeks: If you have the power to go back in time and meet an author, who would it be and why?

Arka: That will certainly be Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore. He has works in every aspect of literature even music and what is better than to learn from the master himself.

BookGeeks: What are your other interests other than writing?

Arka: I would have said reading but that will be too naïve. If it comes to that it will be movies and sports.

BookGeeks: Few words for BookGeeks.in.

Arka: Being an author myself I will say that every writer needs all the inspiration they can get and people like the ones who have come together to form BookGeeks do nothing less than that. Just one single sentence… ‘Keep up the good work’.
