Sunayan Sharma served the forests and wildlife reserves of Rajasthan for about four decades as a member of the Indian Forest Service. Wildlife management is his key area of specialization. He has served as Wildlife Warden, Jodhpur region and Field Director of Keoladeo National Park and Sariska Tiger Reserve for many years. He is credited with the rejuvenation of the Sariska Tiger Reserve through rehabilitation of the tiger population.
He was appreciated by UNESCO for saving the World Heritage title for Keoladeo National Park by introducing innovative landmark schemes for water resource and habitat development. He has not only protected the rich forests of Mewar in Rajasthan but also developed a new perception of the issues of the resident Adivasi Bhil tribals.
His previous books are Sariska: The Tiger Reserve Roars Again, as well as its Hindi version, and Keoladeo National Park, Bharatpur: Birds in Paradise. He has published more than 80 articles in national level newspapers and magazines. As the President of the Sariska Tiger Foundation, he continues to be involved with wildlife and nature conservation.
