The War is over and Janey has a good job in the world of advertising. Her relationship with her mother has been affected by the death of her twin sister Rose, a tragedy for which she holds Sandy, the boy next door, responsible. As she comes out of her dead sister's shadow, Bernard and then Paul, make their interest in Janey known - but to her dismay, she finds her thoughts still dwell on Sandy.
